What is Dynaimcs 365 Finance & Operations
Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is a cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system well-suited for large or diversified companies. It offers you the ability to keep track of all your finances and inventory.
Even
though most customers, commentators, and consultants still call it Finance
& Operations, Microsoft now technically licenses it as 2 different apps:
· Dynamics 365 Finance: Includes
budgeting, project management, financials, and accounting for large, international
companies.
· Dynamics 365 Supply Chain
Management: Includes engineering, manufacturing, warehousing, and
distribution.
It’s still a single implementation. The 2-app licensing just
means that you choose whether your individual users have access to one or both
apps, depending on your business processes.
Dynamics 365 is often compared with AX 2012. The reason is
that D365 is an updated version of Ax2012.
Difference Between AX 2012 and Dynamics 365?
Although both of these are ERP Solutions, the main transition
started with moving AX 2012 into the cloud.
The main differences between these two solutions are listed
below;
Infrastructure
AX 2012 is an on premise Software; user has a real time
access to their production databases on the other hand, D365 has a cloud based
infrastructure and user has to request a copy of their production databases
from Microsoft.
Custom Development
In AX 2012, custom development can be applied using over-
layering method i.e. this allows the core product, customer code and any
value-added reseller (VAR) code to be separated from each other in different
layers and due to which compatibility issues arise and developers must adjust
their code before deploying. On the other hand, In D365, extensibility model is
used, this means the core code of the ERP system is locked down, not allowing
any customizations. Developers must customize the software through built-in
extension points.
